The original Sith Empire was established by Jedi who had turned to the dark side and were banished by the Galactic Republic. The dark Jedi began their conquest by invading and conquering remote worlds.
Sorzus Syn is the dark lord of the Sith Empire who was banished to the remote world of Korriban after being defeated by the Galactic Empire where he conquered and interbred with the natives in that World. Under the leadership of the Dark lord Naga Sadow, the Empire invaded Republic space during the Great Space War, but it was defeated. The Sith Empire was believed to have been destroyed by Republic forces during the second battle of Korriban.

Following the events of the great hyperspace war, The Resurgent Sith Empire was created in the unknown regions of the galaxy. This Empire, was created after Sith survivors of Dark Sith Lord Naga Sadow's disastrous campaign against the Galactic Republic fled known space to escape persecution by the Republic and its Jedi order. After twenty years the Sith found the world of Dromund where they started their rebuilding process under the leadership of Sith Lord Vitiate.

Around three hundred years later, the Sith Empire still under the command of Vitiate, was ready to return to the greater galaxy. After covertly installing puppet governments on Republic worlds across the Outer Rim Territories, the Sith invaded Republic space in an onslaught of unrivaled proportions.
After capturing and securing much of the Outer Rim in the early stages of what would become known as the Great Galactic War, the Sith Emperor began preparing for the push towards the Republic's bastion in the Galactic Core. Despite several setbacks in its campaign towards the core, the Empire surged forward once more, crippling the Republic economy through an alliance with the Mandalorian Clan. However the blockade was eventually broken by Hylo Visz, and reinforcements from the Republic which brought the war into another stalemate.

After nearly 3 decades of fighting, the Empire surprised the galaxy when the Dark Council extended an offer of peace to the Republic. Desperate, the Republic senate accepted, but during peace talks on Alderaan, the Empire launched a silent attack on the Republic capital of Coruscant. The attack was successful, allowing the Empire to force the Republic to sign their draft of the document that would end the war, the Coruscant Treaty.
By this time, the Sith had become more powerful than ever. Around this time, the emperors have up his public interactions and passed on his daily duties to his subordinates. This resulted in the Empire co-existing with the republic and this sparked cold war. In this time, the Empire started to weaken from the inside die to internal conflicts and petty battles and weak administration. When the actual war started, the Empire started to suffer great losses and lost important members of the Empire including the Sith emperor himself.
This opportunity was seized by Darth Marr who assumed leadership and stabilized the Empire and started bringing the Allies together.
Around this time, in 3636 BBY, the Eternal Empire invaded and managed to defeat both the Republic and the Empire. During this time of war, the members of the Dark Council started to suddenly disappear or end up killed. This paved way for Darth Acina to crown herself as the empress of the Sith and join hands with republic to fight the common enemy. This plan worked in their favor and led to the defeat of the Eternal Empire and started a war between the republic and the Empire.

Ultimately, the Galactic Empire successfully defeated the Siths and established their supreme power in the galaxy. The survivors followed Darth Ruin and established The New Sith Empire in 2000 BBY
