Android 11 new features and new fixes

Android 11 is finally out. The update is already updated in Google Pixel smartphones, and will come to more devices in the coming days. Much like the past few Android OS updates, there aren't any radical design changes or features that will completely change how you use your phone, but there are some improvements worth mentioning.

Android 11 is the eleventh major release and the 18th version of the Android mobile operating system. It was released on September 8 2020.

Since we are talking about the new features introduce, so let's talk deep regarding the features.

Features

Smart app and new recent app suggestions

Auto App Dock

In Pixel devices when you boot up your new Android 11 it asks permission to use new Google’s auto generated app dock. This feature helps in changing the apps available on home screen according to the user’s routine. So far, it’s not been that useful, but the guaranteed updates on Google devices and as the phone learns users patterns it might help in making it better with time.

On Pixel devices the recent apps screen has a change as well. Now rather than showing app suggestions below it shows the option to screenshot/share option.

Smart Folder

Smart Folder this helps in organizing the apps in a single folder and the AI suggests a proper name related to the apps in the folder. It’s based on the themes like work, photo, shopping, fitness etc.

Manage your conversations

Prioritizing you chat

Android 11 introduces "conversations" notifications; they are designed for chat and messaging, and can be presented in pop-up overlays known as "Bubbles" when supported by apps. The new update is so friendly for people who are so into messaging. You can answer or even manage your conversations across many apps. You can prioritize people whom you converse frequently and these conversations will appear in lock screen.

Pinned Bubbles

Now you can pin conversations so they will appear on top of apps (its similar like how Facebook Messenger pop up works). The new “Bubbles” will assist you in keeping the conversation going while you engage in some other tasks. To know the complete details specifically on Bubbles click here

Improvement in Built-in Screen Recording

Screen Recording is such an important thing for everyone now. With the new update screen recording is an in-built option which can be done with ease and with added features. Recording with sound supports the sound through mic or the phone speaker. Before you start recording you can choose the sound recording output.

Android Auto

Now you can connect your device to car display and your apps shows up on the car display. After connecting you are just a tap away in diving into android auto experience.

You can ask Google voice assistant for navigation, maps, playing songs and many more things by just saying “Hey Google”. You can call people, chat  with people  listen to favorite songs list right where you had paused them, and even get information  on weather updates as well.

5G detection API and Dark Theme Scheduling

Android 11 has various API’s designed for sensing the existence of 5G network connectivity. As we step into future we are seeing few foldable devices on market. This new update has an improved API for management of hinged devices. It also helps in detecting the temperature and optimizes the apps operation accordingly. New A11 supports wireless debugging.

Most of the Android 10 users loved the new Dark Theme, but it was either turn on dark or white as default theme except for few apps. Now you can set or schedule for the dark mode to activate based on one of two different metrics. You can schedule to turn it on or off when the sun rises or when it sets.

Media and Display Controls

With Media controls being shown as a part of quick setting. It’s easy to switch your audio output from headphones to speaker or vice versa with ease and you won’t be missing a beat while doing so. Changing the device where your media plays is also easy with new media control by using just a tap.

By long pressing the power button you get to manage all the devices you have connected your phone to, it’s that easy. Controlling the lights, temperature door and many more activities can be done from a solitary spot.

Voice Access is much faster and easier to use and now you can use it offline as well for better assistance on selected activities. Intuitive labels on apps helps you control and navigate your device

Privacy and Security

It’s no secret that Google has faced some hefty acusations of negligence over the past few years related to the privacy and security of its users. But with new update there is some improvement in the field of Security and Privacy. Every day, it automatically scans all of the apps on Android phones and works to prevent harmful apps from ever reaching them, making it the most widely deployed mobile threat protection service in the world. As it runs on Google’s machine learning it adapts and improves time to time.  Finally, full on-device encryption keeps data safe, even when devices are lost.

One-time permissions and auto-reset

With the new update user gets better control over their privacy and security better than ever before. You can grant one time permission for apps which needs access for mic, camera and location. So when next time the app needs to access those options it needs to take the users permission again. But when you deny permission for a specified apps multiple times the app is automatically blocked from creating future requests.

Android now resets the permission from the apps which are not used in a while; you can turn in back on again by granting the permission. It limits the broader access to shared storage for all the apps which is running for Android 11

Icing on the cake is that when you reboot your device you can resume the activity where you started. Apps now run immediately after it gets updated.

Some features are applicable only for Pixel  devices
